For Single Phase:

Ø₁ = cos⁻¹(pf₁)

Ø₂ = cos⁻¹(pf₂)

Qc = P × (tanØ₁ – tanØ₂)

C = Qc / (V² × 2πf)


For 3 Phase:

Ø₁ = cos⁻¹(pf₁)

Ø₂ = cos⁻¹(pf₂)

Qc = P × (tanØ₁ – tanØ₂)

C (Line Voltage) = Qc × 1000 / (3 × V² × 2πf)

C (Phase Voltage) = Qc × 1000 / (V² × 2πf)

Where:
- P = Active Power (kW)
- pf₁ = Old Power Factor
- pf₂ = New Power Factor
- V = Voltage (Volts)
- f = Frequency (Hz)
- Qc = Reactive Power to be compensated (kVAR)
- C = Capacitance (µF)
